ANNUAL HISTORY AWARDS AND SCHOLARSHIPS

 


 

Gaétan Gervais Award

Value: $250

This award is given to the student who authored the best essay in a French-language, undergraduate course. Priority will be given to single-author essays submitted in a 4000-level course, excluding HIST 4055. 
 

Thomas Tong Essay Award  

Value:  $1000
 
The purpose of the Thomas Tong Essay Award is to encourage excellence in research and writing in History.  All essays submitted in HIST 4055, Independent Research Project, will be eligible.  The winning essay will be assessed according to two main criteria:  the depth of primary research, and the quality of writing.


 

 Renée Sweeney Memorial Scholarship 

Value: $500

Administered in alternate years by the departments of Music and History, the Renée Sweeney Memorial Scholarship is given to a student in music and/or history on the basis of academic excellence and volunteer contributions, preferably to the music community.

Walter Halchuk Memorial Book Award 

This award is given to the student who achieves the highest mark in a Canadian history course. It comes in the form of an award-winning history book honoured by the Canadian Historical Association or the Institut d’histoire de l’Amérique française, at the student’s preference. 
 

Angus Gilbert Memorial Scholarship 

Value: $1000

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence to a student entering the M.A. in History program. 
 

French River Heritage Fund Scholarship 

Value: $500

This scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic excellence in the previous full academic year to a student in History whose research project deals with the history or prehistory of Northern Ontario.
