June 7, 2010. Huntington Welcomes New Faculty Member in Religious Studies.
It is with great pleasure that Huntington University announces that Dr. Collis Machoko will join the Huntington University faculty in the department of Religious Studies, beginning in July 2010.

In joining the Huntington University community, Dr. Machoko furthers a successful career in interdisciplinary teaching and scholarship with special academic interests in African Theology and socio-religious rituals. 

June 7, 2010. New Staff Announcements at Huntington.
The Huntington University community is delighted to announce the appointment of its newest staff members, Heather Wilson as the university bookkeeper, Eric McLoughlin as the Residence Supervisor and Tyler-Anne Cumming as Director of Communications and University Advancement for 2010-2011.

April 22, 2010. Inaugural Award Winners Announced.
It is with great pleasure that Huntington University proudly announces that Professor Alison Hood has been awarded The Edward J. Conroy Award for Excellence in Teaching and Professor Lorraine Mercer as the recipient of The Theodore K. Jewell Distinction in Leadership Award. Both prestigious honours will be presented by the Huntington University Alumni Association at our upcoming 50th Anniversary and Convocation ceremony, taking place on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at the Cavern at Science North.

April 9, 2010. Huntington to Host Lectures and Landscapes: Diversity in Higher Education, a Unique Conference to the north!
Huntington is proud to host Lectures and Landscapes: Diversity in Northern Higher Education - a conference set for Thursday, May 6, 2010 which will feature a range of academic papers and panel presentations that foreground discussions on the nature of teaching and learning in northern Ontario. The conference will feature Dr. Kathryn Church, an Associate Professor of the School of Disability Studies at Ryerson University. Her talk titled "Landscapes of Discovery: Political Autobiography, Mad History and Objects to Remember" will highlight her teaching and research interests in feminist theory, disability study, social justice and much more.

Guests may register for the conference at the registration booth on Thursday, May 6. The cost to attend Lectures and Landscapes is $20 in donation to a student bursary. Tax receipts will also be available. If you plan to attend, please RSVP by contacting teachingconference2010@huntingtonu.ca

March 18, 2010. Huntington University Professor Wins Prestigious Award.
Huntington University is proud to announce that Dr. Janis Goldie, Chair of the Communication Studies program has been awarded The Best Doctoral Thesis in Canadian Studies Award, a national and multi-national competition adjudicated by The International Council for Canadian Studies.

Dr. Goldie will receive the prestigious award for her thesis entitled "Morals, Process and Political Scandals: The Discursive Role of the Royal Commission in the Somalia Affair in Canada". Her dissertation investigated the discursive role of public inquiries in responding to political scandal in Canada.

March 13, 2010. Huntington University Alumni Association Presents Teaching and Leadership Awards.
In light of Huntington University's 50th anniversary, the Huntington University Alumni Association is currently accepting nominations for the inaugural Edward J. Conroy Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Theodore K. Jewell Distinction in Leadership Award. The nomination deadline is April 16, 2010. March 13, 2010. Gerontology Department  Held 4th Annual Gerontology Awareness Day.
On Friday, March 5, 2010, students, faculty, graduates, members of the media and the public at-large gathered for the fourth annual Gerontology Awareness Day, taking place at Huntington University’s Social Centre. Key note speaker Judith Walh spoke about the legal and professional issues associated with sexuality and seniors in long-term care homes.

January 20, 2010. Bereavement Announcement.
With great sadness, Huntington University announces the passing of a dear friend and alumnus, Dr. Robert Sales on January 8, 2010. He was 49. A memorial service will be held in his honour at Huntington University this evening. In lieu of flowers, the family is receiving donations to the Dr. Robert J. Sales Scholarship at Huntington University, 935 Ramsey Lake Road, Sudbury, Ontario, P3E 2C6.

December 14, 2009. Gerontololgy Department Receives Grant.
Huntington University Gerontology professors Birgit Pianosi and Lorraine Mercer have been observing the audio trend in and outside of their classrooms and it is this observation that led to a grant from the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education.

Dr. Kevin McCormick President of Huntington University congratulates Dr. Pianosi and Professor Mercer on their outstanding work and commends the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education for providing such opportunities. He adds: "the increased use of continuing education access and delivery is a key focus of our academic efforts at Huntington University, enlarging the scope and quality of educational opportunities for both faculty and students."

Starting in 2010, the Gerontology department will use their funding to evaluate students’ perceptions of and experiences with audio learning guides in Gerontology courses offered through continuing education.

October 26, 2009. Brian Tamblyn, President of Georgian College Receives Degree from Huntington.
Brian Tamblyn, the visionary leader of Georgian College in Barrie will receive an Honourary Degree of Sacred Letters from Huntington University this fall. "To achieve excellence requires tremendous dedication and perseverance," says Dr. McCormick, President of Huntington University, adding that "Huntington is proud to bestow its highest honour upon Mr. Tamblyn."

September 14, 2009. New Courses for Students in Communication Studies!
The department is pleased to offer three new 4th year level courses for students in Communication Studies starting this fall. The offering of these new 4th year level courses means that students are being given more choices to complete their degree in the way that they wish. July 6, 2009. Huntington University Appoints Head Librarian.
It is with great pleasure that Huntington University announces that Natasha Gerolami has been appointed as the head librarian of the J.W. Tate Library. In addition to serving as head librarian, Ms. Gerolami will hold a faculty appointment in the department of Communication Studies at Huntington University.
