LU and the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) Sign Exclusive Agreement
November 23, 2011

Laurentian University together with the Insurance Brokers Association of Canada (IBAC) and its member associations, are pleased to announce the official signing of a collaborative agreement to offer an online Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, and an online Honours Bachelor of Commerce (H.B.Com) program. The degree programs are available to insurance brokers across Canada, through an exclusive arrangement with Laurentian University and its Faculty of Management.

“These online programs offered through Laurentian University are now a reality, thanks to the great support from Laurentian and insurance brokers across Canada,” said Fraser Lyle, President of IBAC.  “It’s great to see the fruition of such a flexible, affordable, on line program that allows brokers to attain a prestigious level of education without sacrificing their focus on their own business and customers.”

Both programs are open to brokers who are members of any of IBAC’s 11 member associations, and who have achieved their Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) or Canadian Professional Insurance Broker (CPIB) designation. In addition, brokers seeking admission into the programs will receive consideration for both academic and professional experience.

“IBAC members can learn at a distance while balancing their professional and personal lives,” said Dr. Sylvie Albert, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Management and Director of the Laurentian Management Development Centre.  “This group of IBAC professionals will add diversification to our rapidly expanding group of online students.”

The online MBA and H.B.Com include a broad range of courses in areas such as management science, statistics, accounting, marketing, organizational behaviour and operations, as well as advanced electives in business studies that are highly relevant in today’s business environment. The programs are delivered online in English by Laurentian University, using leading-edge technology, providing brokers with complete flexibility in choosing when and where they want to study.

Applications for admission to the Laurentian University online MBA and H.B.Com programs are accepted by Laurentian University throughout the year, for courses beginning each winter, spring, summer and fall.
