Dr. Zhibin Ye, an Associate Profesor of Chemical Engineering in the School of Engineering, is the first recipient of the Faculty of Science and Engineering Research Excellence Award. This award recognizes excellent research activities in the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and was instituted in 2011.

Dr. Ye's research focuses on the elaboration of novel nanomaterials that can be utilized as catalysts, lubricants and polymer nanocomposites in drug delivery. Nanotechnology is an emerging field with wide-ranging applications.

Dr. Eduardo Galiano-Riveros is the first recipient of the Faculty  of Science and Engineering Teaching Excellence Award for 2011. This award honours excellence in teaching activities in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.  Dr. Galiano-Riveros is an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and has taught numerous courses in physics and biomedical physics. He employs a "back to basics" style of teaching and tends to foster problem solving and critical thinking, with less emphasis on memorization.

"Laurentian University's reputation for excellence in Science and Engineering is further enhanced by the work of faculty like Dr. Ye and Dr. Galiano-Riveros.  Their commitment to advancing understanding among students and to creating knowledge raises the bar.  We proudly congratulate both of them," said Dr. Vasu Appanna, Dean of the Faculty.
