Welcome to the Laurentian Karate Club.

At Laurentian, we study Goju Ryu Karate-do.

Karate is typically divided into two major categories: kata (forms) and kumite (sparring).  Goju kata are very distinctive, often containing fast and slow elements of go (hard) and ju (soft). Many of the kumite techniques are designed for close infighting with many circular strikes and blocks. In general one counters go with ju and ju with go.

Members of the Club are students, faculty, staff, and friends of Laurentian University. Through our affiliation with the Department of Active Living, members of the general public are also welcome. The Laurentian Karate Club accepts members 16 and over.

The Laurentian Karate Club is a proud member of the Seiwa Kai, the JKF Goju-kai, Karate Ontario, and Karate Canada.

Seiwa Kai

Sei means "truth, honesty, sincerity", and wa means "harmony and peace".

These are the principles on which Seiwa Kai Goju Ryu Karate-do is founded.

There are now 56 branches of Goju Ryu Seiwa Kai throughout the world.
